As it has been prone to do lately, "Good Morning America" beat the "Today" show last week in the ratings in terms of total viewers. Of course, that also happened to be the first week with Savannah Guthrie in the co-host chair, as she replaced the recently-departed Ann Curry.

This time, "GMA" overtook "Today" in total viewers by the highest weekly margin in 17 years, ABC announced on Tuesday. "GMA" averaged 4.57 million viewers, with "Today" at 4.213 million (a difference of 357,000).

In terms of adults 25-54 (the target for news programming), "Today" scored 1.711 million, compared to "GMA's" 1.709 — which ABC noted is the closest news demo performance in about 17 years.

Guthrie, the show's former newsreader, started last week, after longtime "Today" staffer and short-lived co-host Curry bid farewell last month.
